Tuesday I woke up in the hostel in Venice Los Angeles (Yes I wish Venice, Italy). The hostel wasn’t the nicest place but it was a place to lay my head for the night. I got up checked out and headed to the bus to go check out the hostel I was going to be staying at in Santa Monica. I rode the bus for about an hour.. I lost track of where I was, freaked out, and jumped off the bus. I was disappointed when I realized I jumped off about 7 blocks short of where I wanted to go. So I walked he rest of the way where my bus would have taken me. I got to the Hostelling international Santa Monica location. The place is like a 5 star hostel. The place was night and day different then the night before. The place had a library, dining hall, tv room, and a bunch of other stuff. The kitchen was amazing, it had about 6 different cooking stations so lots of people could be cooking at one time. I found out the check in wasn’t until two so I left my bag there to do a bit of exploring. I walked down Santa Monica Blvd for awhile to grab some shaving supplies cause I was looking a little haggard. After grabbing the supplies I found a Mexican taco tuck right on Ocean Ave. I had some delicious Mexican food then made my way to check in to my room.
After a quick shave I decided I was going to trek to Venice beach.. I did a quick walk down Santa Monica pier. They have a trapeze school on the pier so I spent a minute watching the people learn trapeze. I made my way down the path towards venice beach. Venice beach is pretty cool. They have tons of vendors with tables selling their crafts. As I was walking down the boardwalk I noticed a few big high end production cameras. I soon realized they were shooting a movie. I was right in the middle of the action I kept walking as if the camera weren’t there cause I could tell they were doing a take. I didn’t want to be “that guy” plus if I screw up the shot hey won’t use it and I miss my 15 minutes of fame. I noticed the actor, it was GW Bailey the Captain in the Police Academy movies. They stopped and I watched for a minute and kept on my way.
I was very surprised by the “Green Doctors” along the boardwalk. The only thing they are is places where people go to pay like $40 for a doctor to “evaluate” them and give them permission to get their medical marijuana card. It’s amazing, anyone and their mom can get their card in California as long as you say you have chronic pain. Which is ironic because you’ll be smoking chronic (if you don’t know chronic is another word for marijuana).
I had some great chili fried and continued back along the boardwalk to the hostel to get to the all you can eat spaghetti buffet for $4. I’d be stupid to miss and opportunity like that. I got to the hostel and spent about an hour and a half slowing grabbing spaghetti a little at a time. Apparently there were suppose to be two people working but one didn’t show up. One poor lady was doing all the cooking by herself to feed 100+ young people.
I met a couple people at dinner. One girl was from Canada, she was moving to Australia to live with her boyfriend. The other guy was from England, he was visiting for two weeks on vacation.
After dinner there was a comedy show in the lounge area of the hostel. I decided to go not expecting much. The first guy was pretty terrible. When you have a bunch of foreign people who hardly speak any English and you try to be sarcastic is just doesn’t come out right. Some of the guys were very crude which I could tell wasn’t amusing to anyone. A couple of the guys were decent and all together I was glad I went. After the show I made my way to my bed and rested my head.
